1) The Following Morning – ***** (all time classic)
2) Yellow Fields – ***** (all time classic)
3) The Colours of Chloe – ***** (all time classic)
4) Resume – ****1/2 (late work masterclass, the art of re-composing)
5) Pendulum – ****1/2 (the art of solo playing, with restraint, but „orchestral“)
6) Encore – **** (awesome (last?) work, full of of mood changes and subtleties)
(The first three records will never leave their position in my musical world, numbers 4 – 6 change from time to time. I saw Eberhard Weber (he now turned 75, don’t tell me time is on our side:)) for the first time when he became a member of the Dave Pike Set, in the Domicil in Dortmund. Early 70’s. My first record was „The Colours of Chloe“, I was blown away. Later I did two long interviews with him for Jazzthetik and the Deutschlandfunk, it was the time of „Orchestra“ and „Pendulum“. Then, in the new century we had a wonderful small talk on our night drive back from his solo bass performance in one of the caves of Lanzarote. It’s not wrong to start with the forthcoming album „Encore“, if you have no Weber record in your collection. Good interview by Karl Lippegaus included, German/English. Mr. Weber always has something to tell. So, if you want to know it all, his autobiography is out now! Kate Bush has always been a great fan, Eberhard W. plays on her album „The Dreaming“. Pat Metheny listened to „The Following Morning“ months without end, if my memory doesn’t play tricks, day by day. And I, personally, don’t know why his electrified, peculiar sound never ever started to get a little bit boring, too well-trusted. It just didn’t.)
