Tobias George Smollett (19 March 1721 – 17 September 1771) was a Scottish poet and author. He was best known for his picaresque novels, such as The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens. George Orwell admired Smollett very much. His novels were amended liberally by printers; a definitive edition of each of his works was edited by Dr. O. M. Brack, Jr. to correct variants.

I only started this with leftfield favourites – book i loved to live in, and are not so well-known – but crafted, original, deep reading.
The canonical work is none of my business while reading. Cause: i read some of it, and it’s all deep inside far away from re-discovering it.
When it comes push to shove, my real all-time-favourite books from the canon are Huckleberry Finn, Don Quixote, Die Brüder Karamasoff, Grapes of Wrath, Rayuela, Oliver Twist, Siebenkäs, Der goldene Topf, the Edgar Allen Poe Short Story Collection, one Chandler – and one novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So my love for crime novels is well-rooted:)
