Punkt 2014, 4-6 September – program overview
The Punkt Festival celebrates 10 years in 2014, and as we’ve already announced, we have invited one of the most important artistic pioneers to Kristiansand: The American musician and performance artist Laurie Anderson.
Festival Passes (NOK 1290 + ticket fee), Day Passes (NOK 390, 490, 590) and a limited number of Laurie Anderson single tickets (NOK 370) are available here: https://www.billettservice.no/artist/punkt-tickets/925089
We are quite confident that this year’s program will meet the Punkt audience’s expectations. More info on exact times, full artist bios etc will soon be available on www.punktfestival.no , but here is an overview of the program:
On Thursday 4 September, the double duo Streifenjunko (Espen Reinertsen / Eivind Lønning) and Sheriffs of Nothingness (Kari Rønnekleiv / Ole Henrik Moe jr.) open the festival. Later, pianist John Tilbury and guitarist Keith Rowe play a duo concert, and percussionist Håkon Stene performs material from his magnificent new album “Lush Laments for Lazy Mammal” together with Sigbjørn Apeland, Heloisa Amaral and Tanja Orning (more info and sound clip here https://hubromusic.com/hakon-stene-lush-laments-for-lazy-mammal/ ). The evening closes with a very special event: The trio Mural (Ingar Zach, Jim Denley and Kim Myhr) will perform a 4 hour concert/installation at Kristiansand Kunsthall with visuals by Kjell Bjørgeengen, arguably Norway’s most significant video artist.
Friday 5 September features Austrian guitar innovator Fennesz in a solo concert based on his recent, critically acclaimed album “Bécs”, which you can listen to excerpts from here (https://www.self-titledmag.com/2014/05/01/stream-fenneszs-new-bcs-album/ ). The Norwegian duo Spacemonkey (Morten Qvenild / Gard Nilssen) has received rave reviews for their debut album “The Karman Line”, an excerpt and more info can be found here (https://soundcloud.com/hubro/spacemonkey-the-karman-line ). There will be one more concert on Friday evening, and all the concerts at Kick Scene will of course be Live Remixed, the remixers will also be announced later.
On Saturday 6 September, Danish trio Maria Laurette Friis / Kresten Osgood / Dodebum performs at Kick Scene, and so does the Dutch improvising string quartet Zapp 4 (a live recording here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqyb0e24ILU ), together with Jan Bang. Fennesz is among the live remixers this evening, the other remixers will be announced later. The festival closes with “An Evening with Laurie Anderson” at Fønix Cinema.
Since it’s the 10 years anniversary, we will indulge in a little nostalgia and show videos from previous festivals at the comfortable Fønix Cinema Hall 4, which features a high-end sound system. Among the concerts that will be shown are:
– David Sylvian Plight & Premonition (Punkt 2011)
– Three Trapped Tigers + Live Remix Arve Henriksen / Eivind Aarset / Jan Bang / Erik Honoré (Punkt 2012)
– Etenesh Wassié / Mathieu Sourrriseau + Live Remix Jan Bang / Audun Kleive (Punkt 2013)
Fønix Hall 4 will also be the place for special listening sessions during the festival, program to be announced later. Admission at these Fønix Hall 4 events is free for Festival Pass/Day Pass holders, but the capacity is limited. Details about this year’s Punkt Seminar will be announced later. At least two Manafonistas will be in Kristiansand, Henning and Michael.
