Laugh when your eyes are burning
Smile when your heart is filled with pain
Sigh as you brush away your sorrow
Make a vow that it’s not gonna happen again
„This doesn’t really appear to be first class song poetry. But it is a first class song. The message is simple, stand up when you fall. I’m falling. The white wall before my eyes. Rock bottom. Everything’s gonna change. Okay, kitchen psychology. At the surface. The words gain value when you hear the singer performing them, crawling inside of them. It is one of my favourite Paul McCartney songs ever, and I won’t call this a guilty pleasure. I call it a living thing. Exists in every private hell. Everything is floating here, some distant Fab Four memories, a happy melancolic song. It’s from one of his best solo albums, „Chaos and Creation in the Backyard“.“ (Brad Matthews)
