It’s very interesting that nearly no writer of reviews complaints about RLJ as being someone who choses the comfort zone when doing the American Songbook. i think they feel that there is something else going on than nostalgia. Wrapped up in a book of canonical songs, Rickie Lee Jones offers nothing more or less than existenzial stuff. Jon Dale wrote a perfect last sentence in his Wire review. We have to know when to set knowledge aside!
