„Die Schwerindustrie, die sich um die Flussmündung herum angesiedelt hat, sticht in dieser alten Landschaft hervor“. Sagt der Mann, der Craven Faults ist. Er bleibt lieber anonym und bietet mit über sein Label an, meine Fragen schriftlich zu beantworten. „Standers“ ist ein Doppelalbum in dunkelmoosgrünem Vinyl, und die beiliegende Fotosammlung aus den Niemandsfeldern von Yorkshire erinnert mich an die regenvergangenen Holzwege, über die ich in den Northern Highlands rumgelaufen bin, im Januar 2016, als David Bowie gerade mal ein paar Tage tot war.
Das waren keine abgesicherten Wanderwege, und die Zeitungen in kleinen Käffern berichteten Tag Für Tag über die heftigen Folgen der Überschwemmungen Wochen zuvor. Den Land Rover behielt ich immer im Blick, als Anker im Unwegsamen, ich ging nie meilenweit, blieb oft einfach stehen, um den Raum einzuatmen. Die Landschaften so graugraugrau, dass mit jedem gedehnten Blick alle Farbreste aus den Augenwinkeln verschwanden.
So auch die Fotos von „Standers“, eine Welt in Schwarzweiss – Augen zu, Augen auf, ein Reflex für den luziden Träumer, den Status der Wirklichkeit zu bemessen. Träume ich oder wache ich? Was Craven Faults hier abgeliefert hat, ist in erster Linie ein unglaubliches Werk von sich langsam entwickelndem, grüblerischem, introspektivem Post-Kraut-Breitwand-Spektakel, der es schafft, sowohl hypnotisierend zu sein als auch aktivem Zuhören standzuhalten.
„Und in der Tat, es liegt ein Hauch von Kohlenrauch in der Luft. Für Craven Faults gehen die unberührten Moore Hand in Hand mit den stampfenden Walkmühlen und Baumwollfabriken.“ Ich zitiere einen anderen Hypnotisierten: „Zyklische Waschungen von analogen Synthesizern und liebevoll gestaltete Beat-Patterns kommen von allen Seiten auf einen zu.“ THEY WASH OVER ME. Ich lege mich in die feuchte Heide und starre in den grauen, bedeckten Himmel von Yorkshire und lasse alles über mich ergehen.
Robert Wyatt lebt hier irgendwo. Ich könnte von fernen Echos berichten, von „Harmonia Town“ oder der „Ruin of Anthrax“, aber vergiss das einfach alles, in urtümlicher Hinterwelt. Wir (wer ist wir?) stromern ohne Plan und Ergriffenheit. Wir taumeln voller Fehltritte ins Glück und lassen uns einfangen, Lasso für Lasso. Wir vergessen den Land Rover.
