5 deep time travel sound projects

von: Michael Engelbrecht Filed under: Blog | TB | 2 Comments

Think twice if you give a book some chances to steal your time. Would all be wasted milk without surrender and thrill. Oh well, these non-fiction books promise to be high quality time thief units. After „Beatles and Drugs“ I never thought I would come across another gorgeously entertaining book about the Fab Four, but here it is, beautifully translated into German, a highlight of spring‘s releases of The C.H. Beck Verlag. The one and only, good-humoured Gregor DJ Mundt will do a whole show around Craig’s book on May 4th in Stuttgart’s last pirate radio station. And the other ones? In parts reviewed here, like Jan’s Krautrock journeys, in parts offerings for the back of the mind of some of you guys, in case you wanna dive deep into the sound worlds of Mark, Bill, or the second part of an exhilarating, exhausting installment of Jamaican music history.

Ben Wardle: Mark Hollis – A Beautiful Silence

Craig Brown: One, Two, Three, Four – Die fabelhaften Jahre der Beatles

Jan Reetze: Der Sound der Jahre

Philip Watson: Bill Frisell, Beautiful Dreamer

Noel Hawks & Jah Floyd: A History of The Jamaican Recording Industry – Rock Steady To Rockers From Treasure Isle To Studio One

  1. Jochen:

I’d like to add On the Periphery – all well written and carefully researched biography about the solo years of David Sylvian, with detailed and deep insights.

  2. Michael Engelbrecht:

Yeps, almost a classic (from 2015) in regards to this quintet of books from 21/22.

A shame Fiona‘s and my radio interviews with David S. about that strange beast Manafon that made it into the blog’s name (happy to announce from the start we were no fansite, haha) got lost one day on his website samadhisound – which more and more turned out to be a look into the past.
