1 – Das ist eine gute Nachricht. Was machen der oder die wohl gerade so, fragt man sich ja ab und an bei geschätzten Musikern, die sich rar machen. Wie famos waren seine Beiträge mit dem alten, neuen „Apollo“-Trio. Und jetzt kommt tatsächlich ein neues Songalbum von Daniel Lanois, im nächsten April. Die sind wirklich viel zu selten. Und einen Song kann man schon hören – wie weich da seine Gesangslinien sind. Das Video ist nett gemacht, obwohl – also, ähem, er scheint ein Faible für Tänzerinnen mit Schummerlichtsexappeal zu haben, die schwirren öfter durch seine Arbeiten. Der Star des Videos ist eindeutig der Song. „The album Heavy Sun was recorded in both Los Angeles and Toronto, and it’s expected to offer a blend of „classic gospel and modern electronics.““
2 – The name of Daniel Lanois is mainly quoted as the producer of some of albums by Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris („Wreckin‘ Ball“), Willie Nelson („Teatro“), Peter Gabriel, U2, Jon Hassell, The Neville Brothers („Yellow Moon“) et al. In fact, after a long working period in the hinterland of Hamilton, Ontario, his encounter with Brian Eno had been a „game-changer“, as Brian opened him some decent doors into the rock’n’roll circus. More than that, Lanois contributed to some legendary, gems of ambient music’s history. The classics: Apollo, Plateaux of Mirror, The Pearl. The buried treasures: Voices (by Roger Eno), Hybrid (by Michael Brook). I always like returning to his solo albums, too, and, apart from his ways of treating guitars and creating atmospheres, I do love his hoarse, grey, passionate, reluctant voice. Not so many works with vocals. I still wait for his Cajun-goes-Gospel-album! The waiting seems to have an end now.
