Im Hintergrund lief Carla Bleys Dinner Music
In the words of Simon Buck:
A fabulous album, which was recorded in Sept/Oct 1976 and released in 1977. Essentially its the group „Stuff“ playing 8 Carla Bley compositions. But when you add in Rosewell Budd on Trombone, Carlos Ward on Saxes and great Trumpet and Tuba players you get something different from a Stuff album.
The Trombone is perhaps the dominant instrument. However all the musicians contribute some terrific playing. As you’d expect with Stuff, the rhythm section drives most of the tracks along. However the Cara Bley compositions don’t follow the old school R&B chord sequences that Stuff would normally have played in that era, so you get an unusual mix here.
