I had a really nice day with this visitor from America yesterday. I told him this album was recorded the year I was born, in my mother’s hometown, close to where I lived at that time. He shared some memories about working with Manfred Eicher / ECM (Thomas Stöwsand) and he also revealed that a new quintet album has been recorded for ECM with Eicher which has yet to be mixed. My interview with Wadada will be online early next year … In the meantime I recommend his albums on the Finnish TUM label, such as the solo album Reflections And Meditations On Monk, the highly unique Najwa with four guitars and Bill Laswell, and also The Great Lakes Suite with Henry Threadgill, John Lindberg and Jack DeJohnette.
