Woohoo! I’ve been hoping for this to happen and now its almost here. Official release date here in the states is September 27. Includes the stereo remix, the bluray 5.1 mix a lot of outtakes including an earlier experimental longer side 2 edit, and of course a nice book. What follows is the official release copy:

This is the first time Abbey Road has been remixed and presented with additional session recordings and demos. To create Abbey Road’s new stereo, 5.1 surround, and Dolby Atmos mixes, Martin and Okell worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios. This Super Deluxe Edition of Abbey Road features the new stereo album mix, sourced directly from the original eight-track session tapes. To produce the mix, Giles was guided by the album’s original stereo mix supervised by his father, George Martin.

Abbey Road’s Super Deluxe box set presents 40 tracks – including “The Long One” Trial Edit & Mix for the album’s epic Side 2 medley – on three CDs (stereo) and one Blu-ray disc (Dolby Atmos, 96kHz/24 bit high resolution stereo, and 96 kHz/24 bit DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1). The four discs are housed in a slip-sleeved 12” by 12” 100-page hardbound book with McCartney’s foreword; Martin’s introduction; insightful, in-depth chapters written by Beatles historian, author, and radio producer Kevin Howlett covering the months preceding The Beatles’ Abbey Road sessions, track-by-track details and session notes, the cover art and photo shoot, and the album’s reception upon its release; plus an essay by music journalist and author David Hepworth looking at the album’s influence through 50 years. The gorgeous book is illustrated with rare and previously unpublished photographs, including many taken by Linda McCartney; never before published images of handwritten lyrics, sketches, and a George Martin score; Beatles correspondence, recording sheets, and tape boxes; and reproduced original print ads.

We will impatiently wait for your report from heaven 🎩😂
Hope to join the choir of bliss at the end of September….

THE GOLDEN YEARS OF OUR GENERATION…

Speaking from the 21st century, i was asked yesterday, from a reader of our blog, what would be my records for the infamous lonely desert island if I could only take three, and all had to have their release date from 2000 onwards … now that‘s hard to say, but after a while, I had the titles …

And my travel companions would be:

    1) Steve Tibbetts: Life Of
    2) Brian Eno and Karl Hyde: Someday World
    3) Brian Eno: Music for Installations

Obviously, i‘m quite limited in my choices, but what can I do…

P.S. when it comes to push to shove Beatles-wise, the three-only option would be very easy to handle for me, no second thoughts: White Album, Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road, in this sequence. And, of course, the deluxe boxes. Wonder why they don‘t offer an audience with Sir Paul as super special bonus for a few happy humans😂

Wow, I don’t think I could ever come up with 3 desert island discs. I just couldn’t. As for just the Beatles, the 3 Giles Martin and his partner chose to remix were pretty obvious choices, because not only were they are some of their best, they were also probably the most sophisticated sonically and thus good candidates for remixing (later technology- better track separation,) and a 5.1 mix. I still have a fondness for Revolver and Rubber Soul and would love to hear what Martin could do with these two mid-career gems. I also think the Magical Mystery Tour album is underrated and could benefit from some remixing and a surround mix. But I’m with you – if I absolutely had to pick 3, these would be my most likely choices.

  3. Michael Engelbrecht:

Yeah, of course they did so many great albums and songs within such a short span of time.

I don‘t tell the story here, but i wouldn‘t probably have started my radio years without a cassette of Steve Tibbetts from 1989 containing a thrilling „hörspiel“ about his developing of musical ideas, with samples from monk chants, sounds of wind fron the Rocky Mountains etc.

I have and love nearly all of his records, not the one with hardanger fiddle in a Norwegian church,I was missing something there, but LIFE OF definitely has put a permanent spell on me. It is pure bliss for my ears, body, souk, and i only want listen to it from start to end.

And, Brian, keep in mind, the Beatles were most happy, speaking of their classics up to REVOLVER at least, when they could enjoy the MONO MASTERS, the old glorious mono….
