On May 20th, the forthcoming Dylan album will be released, and, I’m not too enthusiastic about it, will be his second „Sinatra album“ in a row. Auf jeden Fall ist es wunderbare Hintergrundmusik für die dann in voller Blüte stehende Spargel- und Grillzeit im heimischen Garten. You can listen to one song h e r e , „Melancholy Mood“. I wouldn’t call the first one important in any way, except for his relaxed play with tradition.
I always preferred that other cover album of His Bobness some years ago where he delivered his personal take on Christmas carols in a „Freddie Krueger goes Elm Street“ – mood that could frighten the kids on the block that otherwise dance to some gangsta rap shit.
Aber nun kommt die Frage, um die es mir eigentlich geht, und ich bitte um ein paar Kommentare. Speaking of „cover albums“ that, from start to end, contain other writers‘ compositions: which ones come to your mind that you really love. It’s only the ones you love that matter!!! One of my favourite cover albums ever is Stina Nordenstam’s fantastic „People Are Strange“. Meanwhile a buried treasure. Please let me know your favourites consisting entirely of cover versions … no matter from which era.
