Michael Engelbrecht:
Curse and blessing
Curse: the everywhere aspect of music and the awfully bad sound quality of muzak and background music in general (even jazz and classical music not filtered through Muzak’s light remixes)
Curse: new researches show that our brain has a lot of work to do to compensate the faults of digital information presented in even the most tasteful selection of music in your favourite cafes and restaurants. This is immensely stressful. Silence would be much better. Installing „healthy“ background music sound systems is quite expensive.
The blessing: Eno’s take on Muzak by creating his Ambient series. Music that is not begging for attention, but rewarding every bit of it.
