The jazz facts on dradio.de, on May 1st, (german time: 21.05 Uhr) will include three stories, and a lot of new music. One story is about a sociological perspective on jazz written in a language that will make you think hard, or laugh out loud (because of the traps of scientific codes of writing). The second story is about the „Jazzahead“ in Bremen (delivered with brilliant humour), the third story is about the trio Kahliba, the new work of Heinrich von Kalnein’s trio. This fine jazz album has been produced in the „Kammermusiksaal“ of the Deutschlandfunk. The other new records in these 55 minutes are by Dino Saluzzi (the title is telling: „El Valle de la Infancia“), Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (I was stealing with joy from Ian’s deep listening descriptions, thx!) – and the French duo Peirani & Parisien. I’m not a huge fan of the sound of the bandoneon / accordion in general, but the three accordion players in this hour transcend my limitations of taste.
