If one likes english language, wants to create his own sound – a man with increasing qualities (like me), in search of lost time and in remembrance of things past – one might come across the beautiful literature of Russell Hoban. When i was younger, so much younger than today, i read some books of this autor in german translation – and they impressed me and the remembrance is well: Kleinzeit, The Lion of Boaz-Jachin and Jachin-Boaz (dt. Der Kartenmacher), Turtle Diary (dt. Oceanische Gefühle). But i guess, reading this in english must be far more fun. In Kleinzeit (which is german and means „hero“ or „smalltime“ – depends on whom you ask) the hero gets fired, is booked into hospital for a recurring pain (a pain from the hypothenuse A to B) and falls in love with a beautiful night sister:
„Sister woke up, got out of bed, rose like the dawn. Rosy-fingered, rosy-toed, rosy-nippled. Tall, firm, shapely, Junoesque. Bathed and brushed her teeth. Plain with bra, Marks & Spencer knickers. Nothing fancy. Put on her uniform, her cap, her firm black sister shoes.“
Reading this, got to get me some Russell Hoban books (again) and besides that, immediately got to fall in love with a night sister (again) …
